Lagos, Feb. 2, 2017 (NAN) Mr Kehinde Olufunsho , the  Pan-African Historical Theatre Festival (PANAFEST) representative in Nigeria, has urged Nigerians to desist from ethnicity and religious bigotry to move the nation forward.

Olufunsho told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos that ethnicity and religious bigotry had eaten deep into the fabric of every Nigerian.

He said that this had given rise to favouritism and lack of discipline in the society, adding that it would take individual’s conscious effort to curb it.

According to him, every Nigerian ought to be concerned about how to collectively improve the nation’s economy and overcome insecurity; irrespective of religious or ethnic background.

“The developed nations like China, the United States of America and more are far ahead of us because they have no regard for choice of religion and ethnic group.

“I wish we can appoint people into positions of authority based on merits rather than on the basis of ethnic group,” he said.

Olufunsho also advised Nigerians to desist from indolence but should embrace professionalism.

He said this was the secret behind the success of the Asian tigers: Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.

“We can grow rapidly when we change our value systems and consolidate on those things that make us unique as a country, like our culture and tourism,” he said.(NAN)
