Painter, 37, docked for alleged criminal intimidation

Abuja, March 20, 2017 (NAN) A 37-year-old painter, Emmanuel Agaraku, was on Monday arraigned in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja over alleged criminal intimidation of his estranged lover.

The defendant is standing trial on a count charge of intimidation.

Agaraku, who resides at William Street in Life Camp, Abuja, however, denied committing the offence.

The Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, told court that one Chiamaka Ngige of the same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on March 19.

Auhioboh said that the complainant alleged that the accused, who is the father of her two children threatened to kill her over an argument about her coming late from work.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused failed to pay the petitioner’s bride price throughout their relationship as lovers.

He said that the petitioner accommodated the accused in her house for two years hoping they would get married.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 397 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted the accused bail in the sum of N30,000 with one surety in the like sum.

Sadiq said that the surety must be a Grade level six officer in the Federal Civil Service and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He also ordered that both parties should stay apart and adjourned the case till April 25 for further hearing. (NAN)
