Lagos, March 13, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old painter, Tope Bada, to one-year imprisonment for stealing  valuables worth N606, 000.

The Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, sentenced Bada after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge bordering on stealing.

Komolafe sentenced the accused to a one-year jail term, without an option of fine.

“Based on the facts of this case, as confirmed by the reports and the plea for leniency, I hereby sentence the accused to one year imprisonment with hard labour,” he said.

The magistrate held that the sentence should start from the day of Bada’s arrest.

The convict resides at No. 17, Popoola St., Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 26 at about 9.00.a.m. at House 8, Road 14, Peace Estate, Baruwa, Ipaja, Lagos.

Ajebe said the accused broke into the residence of the complainant, Mrs  Yetunde Oshodi and made away with her properties.

“The accused scaled the fence, broke into the complainant’s house and carted away some cash, electronics, phones and a laptop.

“He was accosted by some security guards, who demanded to know how he came about the items.

“The convict confessed to have used a saw to cut the padlock on the door, while the complainant had left for work and stole the valuables,” Ajebe said.

The offences contravened Sections 285 and 305 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
