Ibadan, March 13, 2017 (NAN) Oyo State Government says the newly inaugurated School Governing Boards (SGB) for Secondary Schools is a management vehicle for improving education standard in the state.
The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, said this at the ongoing sensitisation programme organised for members of the SGB across the state.
He said that the boards were inaugurated with a mandate to ensure improved academic standard and efficiency of teachers.
Olowofela said the boards also had the task of providing adequate teaching and learning resources and ensuring full participation of stakeholders in effective schools’ management, among others.
“The Abiola Ajimobi-led administration resolves to rebuild the education sector and halt academic performance of students in public schools.
“It is a task that must be done. I implore all stakeholders here present to come together, irrespective of beliefs, academic and financial status, and revamp our education sector.
“SGB is not a money-making avenue; we have organised stakeholders to come together to join hands with the state government to arrest the falling standard of education.”
Olowofela urged all stakeholders in the education sector as well as other well-meaning individuals, groups and organisations to collaborate with the government to uplift education standard in the state.
The commissioner said that the programme would enhance qualitative service delivery in all public schools in Oyo State.(NAN)
