Oyo College awaits NBTE approval for 8 new courses

Igbo-Ora (Oyo State), Aug. 10, 2018 (NAN) The Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology (OYSCATECH), Igboora, has announced the introduction of eight new courses awaiting approval from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Prof. Gbemiga Adewale, the College’s Provost, told newsmen in Igboora on Friday that the NBTE, Kaduna had on Aug. 4 concluded a resource inspection and verification visit to the college.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that when the college’s eight new courses are approved by the NBTE, it would bring the number of approved programmes at the institution to 29.
Among the eight new courses are: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Food Technology, Business Administration and Statistics.
Others are: Horticultural Technology, Cooperative Economics and Management, as well as Office Technology and Management.
Adewale said that many Nigerian youths who desired tertiary education had been hindered by inadequate spaces and lack of capacity to expand in many institutions across the country.
He said that these challenges are some of the reasons for the introduction of new programmes in the college.
The provost commended the NBTE for its regular support to the institution and solicited more assistance from it to ensure that Nigerian youths had access to qualitative tertiary education.
Adewale recalled that Malam Musa Isgogo, the NBTE team leader, said during their visit that they wanted to be assured of quality before the college would commence the programmes.
Isgogo had explained that the college was well positioned with some of her programmes such as Food Technology, Cooperative Economics and Management, Entrepreneurship.
He said that facilities like fish ponds, bakery, poultry and food processing could provide solutions to problems within the community, as well as tackle youth unemployment.
Also speaking, Mrs Opeyemi Olawore, the college’s Public Relations Officer, denied a report published by an online media, stating that the NBTE leadership had already approved its eight new programmes.
Olawore told NAN that NBTE visited OYSCATECH from Aug. 1 to Aug. 4 for resource inspection and verification of programmes, adding that it was still waiting for the board’s approval, contrary to the publication. (NAN)
