Oyegun condoles with Okpozo, Ogbodu families

Condolence
Benin, Jan. 5, 2017 (NAN) Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress (APC), has described late Sen. Francis Okpozo as dedicated patriot, who working tirelessly for the unity of the country and welfare of the people.
The APC chairman stated this on Thursday when he paid a condolence visit to the resident of the late senator in Benin.
He urged the children to create for themselves a niche as their father was committed to an improved society and his commitment was noticed.
According to Oyegun, “We have come here to sympathise with you on the passage of a great man.
“All his political life, he has worked to improve the circumstances of the country, the state and the people.
“We who worked with him know that he was a man who was totally dedicated to the welfare of this country, totally dedicated to ensuring that life be better for the people and that our lives will be better.
“We want to assure you that you did have a father who was appreciated, who committed himself and whose commitment was noticed.”
Responding, Okpozo’s daughter, Mrs Onome Agbonla, who commended the APC chairman for his relevance in the politics of the country, described the visit as a justification that Oyegun was indeed a friend to their father.
“For us as a family, we really appreciate your visit to this family”
“We are thankful for the words coming from you and it shows that you are our father and also our father’s friend,” she stated.
It would be recalled that Okpozo, who was also a former Deputy Speaker in the old Bendel State, died in Benin, on Dec. 26.
Oyegun who also paid a condolence visit to the residence of late Mrs Ijose Ogbodu, popularly known as “Mama SDP” who according to Oyegun, was one of those who made him governor.
According to Oyegun, ” I’m sure you know how close your mother and I were. She was one of the people who carried me at that time she.
“I was governor of Edo; she was our women leader in the time of SDP.
“I can say without fear of contradiction that she is one of the generous human being that I have come across.
“I am here with a team who worked with her during those wonderful days of SDP when politics was innocent.
“She followed us all over right from Bendel to Edo, including the riverine areas,” before Delta was carved out. (NAN)
