Abakaliki, Nov. 4, 2017 (NAN) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has commended Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi for tolerating the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other members of the opposition parties in the state.

Osinbajo gave the commendation on Saturday at the marriage solemnisation between one of his security aides, Nelson Nwokoro and Nnenna Nwankwo, at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki.

According to him, I am impressed with Umahi’s tolerance of APC supporters who received me on arrival in the state.

“My party’s supporters came out en-masse to welcome me and the governor was generous and kind to tolerate their actions.

“This made us not to witness any conflict and it is the way we should do things for the progress of the country,” he said.

Osinbajo noted that Nigeria would benefit more if it remains united, saying that its leaders and entire citizens should oppose any move to disintegrate the nation.

“There is nothing we will gain by disintegrating because the country can provide for all its citizens if corruption is checked.

“Lagos is six times the economy of Rwanda and if we sit and discuss our differences, we will achieve greater feats like countries which towed such path,” he said.

He assured the South-East of equitable representation in President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, noting that the administration will accommodate all sections of the country in its schemes.

“I want to reveal that the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri railway project has been approved by the president and it will pass through Enugu, Abakaliki and Awka.

“The Ebonyi governor is a bridge builder, who has ensured the unity of the country; the Federal Government and his fellow governors have always commended his agricultural strides,” he said.

He prayed for the successful marriage of the couple and attested that the groom had been a loyal, faithful and dedicated aide.

Umahi thanked Osinbajo for visiting the state for the wedding and commended the groom for attracting such a huge personality to the state.

“The vice president could not have honoured Nelson if he had found him untrustworthy as he concluded his programmes at the redeemed church camp by 2a.m and flew to Ebonyi to attend the occasion.

“This shows that Nelson is a man of character which Ebonyi people is known for, and we urge him to maintain the standard,” he said.

He thanked the vice president for his special love for the state, noting that he and Buhari had preference for Ebonyi and had assisted its agricultural revolution.

“You should be assured of our unalloyed support irrespective of party affiliations because we believe that after elections, we should serve the people.

Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, the officiating priest, urged the congregation to pray for the couple to surmount challenges that had hampered the progress of most marriages.

“The couple should be prayerful, faithful to each other and communicate effectively to attract the blessings that God bestows on marriages,” he said.

NAN reports that the vice president was accompanied on the visit by Mr Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation while top government dignitaries within and outside the state also attended the occasion. (NAN)
