Lagos, Feb. 20, 2018 (NAN) Peter Oghenejobo, founder of the annual Agoma Open Taekwondo Festival (AOTF), has urged athletes who wish to participate in this year’s edition to adhere strictly to the championships’ guidelines to avoid disqualification.

Oghenejobo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Lagos that censors sucks, fitness certificates and registration fees were requirements for participation in the championships.

NAN reports that the 2018 edition of AOTF will hold in the Knock-Up Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos from May 16 to May 19.

He said that awareness which has been passed to the athletes through their various states associations and clubs was necessary to ensure a hitch-free tournament.

“Agoma championships is one of the consistent tournament and since its inception in 2001, we have been having a smooth event because of our meticulous way of organising the activity.

“This standard we are trying to sustain and by extension have the input of modern device such as censors’ sucks which must be the participant’s size used to determines points on kicks.

“We are not going to comprise and that is the reason we made the requirements known to the athletes early enough because defaulters must face the penalty,’’ he said.

Oghenejobo, who doubles as the Coordinator of the tournament, listed events for the tournament as senior/junior/cadet/minor Kyorugi (male/female), senior individual poomsae (male/female), senior mixed team poomsae comprising two male and a female.

He added that the senior mixed poomsae could also accommodate two female and a male respectively, while there would be kyokpe (adult male only) and Hoshinsul (adult male/female).

According to him, the participation fee remains N3,000 for individual events, while the team events is N5,000.

He said that the deadline for registration was May 9.

“The championships as indicated is open, taekwondo athletes are expected to lodge their registration fee in Acccess Bank Account Number 0003017272 and forward their receipt to olympeters@gmail.com.

The 1992 Olympic silver medallist said that certificates, medals and gift items would be awarded to winners that excelled in their events, while trophies go to the best males/females in the tournament.

He added that the championships would have national and international certified referees as officials, while the Electronic Scoring Device System (ESDS) would be used because of the standard of the competition. (NAN)
