Ferry

Lagos, July13, 2018 (NAN) Sea Coach Express Services, a ferry service provider between CMS and Apapa, Lagos State, moved over 600 passengers daily along the corridor.
Mr Lanre Sholotan, the Assistant Manager, Operation of the company, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday.
Sholotan said that many passengers had benefitted from being transported on the CMS-Apapa routes, saying that the journey was shorter, safer and cheaper than road transportation.
“The advantages of the ferry services cannot be over-emphasised as many passengers cannot do without ferry, especially along this corridor.
“We move about 600 passengers daily on CMS-Apapa route and about 18,000 passengers monthly,’’ he said.
According to him, the trip from CMS to Apapa costs N150 with adequate safety measures in place like quality life jackets and standard ferries.
Sholotan said that a service of public water transportation within the city was now relatively cheap, convenient and efficient.
‘’The only challenge we are facing now is that many passengers are not patient enough, in spite of the fact that the journey is shorter.
`Many passengers are always in a haste to get to their destination.
“The CMS-Apapa route is six to seven minutes’ journey but some passengers will not be patient enough to put on their life jacket properly.
“We have to calm them down and allow them to be stable before the journey starts,’’ he said.
According to Sholotan, Sea Coach started operations in Lagos in March 2015 with a fleet of 10 passenger boats designed specifically to provide safe, fast and comfortable commuter experience. (NAN)
