Lagos, Jan. 24, 2017 (NAN) A transporter, Tochukwu Uzoamaka, charged with attempting to steal the battery of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle parked opposite a police barracks, on Tuesday admitted guilt, setting the tone for his sentence.
Uzoamaka, 27, appeared in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempt to steal.
The Magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, ordered that the accused be kept in custody and adjourned till Feb. 1 for facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Hafsat Ajibode, told the court that the accused, and others still at large, committed the offences on Jan. 21, at about 2.00 a.m., at Iponri Bus Stop, opposite Iponri Police Barracks.
Ajibode said that the accused, along with his cohorts, had conspired to steal the battery of a BRT bus, parked outside the police barracks.
“The security guard on duty heard noises and was able to apprehend the accused but his accomplices escaped,” she said.
According to her, the offences contravene Sections 404 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
