Provost
Pankshin (Plateau) Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) Dr Amos Cirfat, the new Provost, Federal College of Education, Pankshin, on Tuesday assumed office with a pledge to transform the college into one of the best colleges in the country.
The provost made the pledge during the handing over ceremony, which was witnessed by staff, students and well wishers at the college auditorium.
“I consider my appointment as the Lord’s doing and not any man’s because we were many that contested, yet God gave it to me.
“This privilege is enough for me to have a rethink and do my best for the growth and development of the college to be one of the best colleges in the country, ’’ he said.
The provost solicited the cooperation of the staff and students of the college, the unions and stakeholders, in order to move the college to greater heights.
“Having spent 22 years in the college, I am aware of some of the challenges and I will certainly do my best to address them and move the college forward,’’ he said.
Earlier, the Acting Provost, Dr Ezema Kalu, expressed gratitude to God for the newly appointed helmsman, describing him as “the college’s beacon of hope’’.
Kalu enumerated some of the challenges facing the college to include unpaid salaries, strikes by the both Academic and Non-Academic staff, and graduate/under graduate students’ protests over delay of release of results.
“I wish to announce to you today that most of these problems have been solved and the relationship between the management and the staff has tremendously improved of recent, ’’ he said.
While wishing the new provost a successful tenure, Kalu thanked the federal government for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity.
He also thanked the staff and students for their cooperation and support during his one year in office.
The College Registrar, Mr C.D. Yakse, commended all stakeholders for their continuous support and cooperation to the management and appealed to them to give the same to the new provost.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Cirfat, before his appointment, was a Deputy Provost of the college and the National President of the Science Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (STAN).
He is the first Provost to be appointed from within the system who has served as Dean, School of Sciences and Students’ Affairs as well as Chairman of the SERVICOM Unit of the college.
