Okomu oil recorded only 4 cases of snake bite in 10 years -MD

Benin, July 6, 2017(NAN) The Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc on Thursday said due to its compliance to animal safety and protection policy, the company only recorded four cases of snake bite in 10 years.

Dr Graham Heifer, the company’s Managing Director said this during its 2017 Health, Security and Environment Awareness Day at Okomu in Udo, Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Awareness Day had the theme:“A healthy environment begins with me; safety today, safety always’’.

Heifer said that the company observed all policy that protect animals from been killed by any means.

“We do not kill snakes because of our compliance with the do not kill animals conversation policy.

“The cases of snake bite are far and in between. We have only experienced four snake bites in 10 years.

“The company also takes precautionary safety measures within the precinct of the palm and rubber plantations.’’

Alhaji Ahmed Abdullahi, the Chief Conservationist, Okomu National Park, commended the company management’s level of commitment to safety measure at work place.

Abdullahi corroborated Heifer’s comment, saying that the park was partnering with the company in the area of staff training on basic animal protection techniques in case of any strayed wide animals into the plantation.
