Eruwon (Ogun), Jan. 17, 2017 (NAN) An Ijebu monarch, Eleruwon of Eruwon, Oba Adebayo Okubena, has advised youths to shun social vices capable of tarnishing their image and truncating their dreams.
Okubena gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Eruwon, Ijebu-East Local Government area of Ogun.
He said, as future leaders, youths should be responsible change agents willing to make sacrifices and meaningful contributions toward the nation building.
The oba decried the lazy attitude and the get-rich-quick syndrome among youths, saying that this was responsible for the spate of armed robberies, kidnappings, ritual killings, thuggery, amongst others.
Okubena also urged security agents to be on top of the situation.
“An idle mind it is said, is the devil’s workshop and as such, our children must engage themselves positively in one venture or the other.
“It is what you do for yourself today, in terms of self-development that will make way for you tomorrow, hard work is paramount, there are no two ways about it.
“I understand that some youths may be frustrated with the downturn in the nation’s economy, which may be responsible for the increase in criminal acts,” he said.
The monarch urged the youth to engage in ventures like interior decorations, leather works, creative arts, fashion designing, catering and farming.
Okubena also urged government at all levels to provide more empowerment opportunities that would reduce unemployment rate to the barest minimum. (NAN)
