Abeokuta, Jan. 17, 2016 (NAN) The Ogun Ministry of Youth and Sports has concluded plans to engage in street soccer to hunt for talents.
A statement by the Commissioner for Sports, Mr Afolabi Afuape, said on Tuesday in Abeokuta that the game would be played across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Afuape said the aim was to select and train the talents to form formidable teams for the state.
According to him, the idea behind the street soccer games is to scout for youths who have passion for soccer and other sports.
The commissioner said that the state government would soon begin a football academy where students would combine sports with academic activities in line with global practices.
He urged individuals and corporate organisations to sponsor sports, adding that “government alone cannot do it’’. (NAN)
