Lagos, July 31, 2017 (NAN) The Baseline Foundation says it has concluded plans to stage the second edition of the Ayangburen U-13 Baseball and U-17 Softball Championships in Lagos.
The foundation’s Director, Magnus Ike, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Monday that the competition would hold from Aug. 14 to Aug. 19 at Igbobi College, Yaba.
Ike said that the competition to be held in honour of the Traditional Ruler of Ikorodu Town, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, to mark his second year on the throne, would feature teams and clubs from six states and the FCT.
The states are Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa.
“This competition is to felicitate with the Oba of Ikorodu, who is the grand patron of the foundation, and to discover budding talents.
“This year’s edition will be more interesting and competitive because more clubs and teams have already shown interest.
“The first edition in 2016 started the same day baseball and softball were returned to the 2020 Olympic Games, and from that day, we decided to make it a yearly event, ” he said.
The director added that the foundation would continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Baseball and Softball Association in order to develop the sport.
NAN reports that Delta won the maiden edition of the competition. (NAN)
