Katsina, June 14, 2017 (NAN) The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged organisations in Katsina State to provide the basic needs of corps members for effective service delivery.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Okpo John, made the plea in an interview with newsmen in Katsina on Wednesday.

“I wish to plead with those organisations that enjoy the services of corps members but are yet to provide them with basic needs, to strive to provide such needs.

“Like accommodation, transportation to places of their primary assignments and medicare,’’ he said.

He said that the call was imperative in view of the current economic situation being experienced in the country, adding that the support would motivate the corps members and enhance their performance.

Okpo said that the corps members had been posted to schools, health centres, rural areas and agricultural facilities in the state.

The coordinator, therefore, urged the corps members to display exemplary character, shun truancy and discharge their primary assignments diligently for the development of the country.

He also spoke on skills training for corps members, saying it had helped to reshape their mindsets.

According to him, most of the corps members are now trying to develop their skills and become self-employed and employers of labour.

‘’With this attitude of corps members surging out to fight unemployment, sooner, the unemployment syndrome will fade into insignificance in this country,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that about 500 ex-corps members had established businesses and settled in Katsina state after their service year. (NAN)
