Dutse, June 10, 2017 (NAN) The Igala Cultural Group from Kogi on Saturday in Dutse emerged winner of the 2017 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Batch ‘A’ Stream One Dance Carnival, organized by Jigawa NYSC.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Yorubu group came second while the Igbo group came third, with each of the groups carting away a trophy.

Ten groups, which represented different tribes of the country, featured in the event.

Speaking at the occasion, the Emir of Dutse, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammad, said the competition had further strengthened the unity of the country and brotherhood of the corps members.

The Emir said the way the different groups danced, wearing different cultural attires, was a clear indication of unity in diversity that had been responsible for the strength of the nation.

Muhammad, who was represented by a traditional title holder in the Emirate the ‘Turaki’ of Dutse, Alhaji Jamilu Basiru, described the event as not just “mere dancing and singing”, but a symbol of what the different groups stood for.

Muahammad commended the NYSC for organising the carnival and pledged to donate a trophy for the annual dance carnival.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mr Michael Amolu, said the event was organised to display the different culture the country had.
Amolu said it was also to expose the corps members to intercultural activities, thereby enabling them to appreciate one another.
He added that it would also foster unity, peace and love among the corps members. (NAN)
