Lagos, Sept. 18, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Cricket Federation identified 30 budding talents during the just-concluded National Youth Games held in Ilorin.
Tonye Timinade, the federation’s National Development Manager, South, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the talents had potential to represent Nigeria.
He expressed satisfaction at the performance of participants at the cricket event at the third edition of the Games held from Sept. 7 to Sept. 17.
He said that states such as Oyo, Kaduna and Edo performed beyond expectations, adding that more states were improving rapidly in the sport.
“Cricket is at its peak at the youth level, and this shows that something good is happening in cricket.
“The cricket event was very competitive both in the boys and girls categories, as more states are gradually developing in the sport.
“If more states continue to develop in the sport, cricket will bounce back in the country,” Timinade said.
NAN reports that Kaduna and Akwa Ibom won the boys and girls category respectively, while Delta emerged the overall winner of the Games with 22 gold medals, 16 silver and 23 bronze.
Akwa Ibom finished second with 16 gold, 15 silver and 15 bronze; Ondo occupied the third position on the medals table with 12 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze.(NAN)
