Abuja, Feb. 16, 2017 (NAN) The Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) says it will boost socioeconomic activities and promote the untapped tourism potential of minority ethnic groups in the country.
Mrs Mariel Rae-Omoh, the acting Director-General of the corporation, made the assertion in Abuja.
She spoke while playing host to the Hospitality and Tourism Management Association of Nigeria (HATMAN) led by its President, Mr Badaki Aliyu.
Rae-Omoh said that there was need to develop the nation’s tourism sector to reduce poverty, create job opportunities and generate revenue.
“Tourism is an important instrument for poverty reduction, economic growth, biodiversity conservation, employment creation, community empowerment, grassroots development and revenue generation.
“In line with this, NTDC, as a tourism policy implementation agency, will effectively carry out its mandate with the support of the public-private partnership and workers of the corporation,” she said.
The acting director-general reiterated the NTDC’s commitment to partner with professional bodies, associations and stakeholders to move the industry forward.
Earlier, Aliyu said that the association’s aim was to entrench professionalism in the hospitality and tourism industry through training.
He said that the association was ready to collaborate with NTDC to move the industry forward for the benefit of the entire nation. (NAN)
