NSHA sets up committee on Pilgrims Board’s refusal to defend budget

Lafia, Feb. 8, 2017(NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has set up a six-man committee to investigate why the state’s Muslims Pilgrims Welfare Board refused to appear before it to defend its 2017 budget.

Its Speaker, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, constituted the committee on Wednesday in Lafia, after the board’s Executive Secretary, Alhaji Hassan Nalaraba, appeared appeared before the house.

“The committee will ascertain the true position of claims by the Executive Secretary that he sent some officials to defend the budget,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that he house, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, summoned the Executive Secretary to appear before it over alleged refusal to defend the board’s 2017 budget.

The committee, which has one week to submit is report, is chaired by Tanko Tunga with Daniel Oga-Ogazi, Ibrahim Muluku, Mohammed Okpoku, Oberre Kana and Peter Mbucho as members.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has directed the Executive Secretary of the board to appear before the house committee on pilgrims matter to defend the board 2017 budget “within twenty four hours”.

NAN reports that the executive secretary, while responding to questions from he law makers, had claimed that he was away to Saudi Arabia on official assignment, when the house invited the board for the budget defence.

“I traveled to Saudi Arabic on Jan. 10; I was there when the invitation came and I asked our directors to appear and defend the budget.

“When I came back, they said they appeared and defended the budget on Jan. 23.

“I am honestly at a loss,” he said. (NAN)
