Damaturu, Jan.25, 2017 (NAN) The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Yobe Command, said it has re-established offices in communities reclaimed from the insurgents in the state.

Dr Muhammad Fari, outgoing NSCDC State Commandant, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu on Wednesday that the corps had also successfully checked cases of rape and vandalism of public properties in the state.

“The command recorded remarkable achievements in 2016, having re-opened our offices in Gujba and Gulani Local Government Areas, after they were reclaimed by the military.

“The presence of our personnel in all the 17 Local Government Areas provided protection to women, children and other vulnerable groups against abuse, molestation and rape,” he said.

Fari, who has now been redeployed to the headquarters, urged officers and men of the command to remain committed to duty and improve on the achievements recorded.

He said that the command partnered with Non-Governmental Organisations like the National Council of Women Society (NCWS) and the state ministry of Justice in the fight against rape and abuse.

“The command rose to the challenge of increasing rape cases, involving a six-month-old baby and several others in Potiskum and Damaturu.”

Fari said that the command also successfully fought the increased cases of vandalism of high tension electric cables in the two local council areas.

“The command gallantly fought vandals carting away electric cables in the two local government areas, who took advantage of lack of electricity in the areas.

“We arrested many vandals and persons buying the stolen properties and charged same to courts,” he said.

Fari said he was leaving the command as a fulfilled man.

“I am leaving behind a command with high morale staff, a command with new commitment to service, and a command with good working relationship with other security agencies.

“I am also proud to say that the NSCDC in Yobe now enjoys unprecedented public confidence.

“This is because we took time to build public confidence in the corps, to access vital and timely information for a proactive approach to the fight against crime,” he said. (NAN)
