Nasarawa, May 4, 2017 (NAN) Aisha Audu-Emeje, the President, A3 Foundation, the sole promoters of the 2017 Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), on Thursday expressed delight that the overall goal for organising the games was gradually being achieved.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 4,000 athletes from over 81 Nigerian polytechnics are taking part in about 12 sporting events at the 19th edition of the games holding at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa.
“My goal of becoming the foremost promoter of the biggest event, bringing youths from all polytechnic institutions together, was borne out of the desire to channel youths’ attention toward self-development.
“Our objective is to ensure that the games expand the frontiers of talent development and self-employment generation for the youths.
“This is indeed a fiesta as it involves more than just sports. We also have a social centre where youths showcase their dexterity in various talents.
“In other words, the students are engaged in not just the on-field sporting affairs, but also in all other areas ranging from social, mental and other activities,” she said.
Audu-Emeje added that the word ‘peace-bridge’ was the main theme and ideology behind the hype of this edition of the games.
She noted that the games were re-positioned in line with Federal Government’s resolve to make sports promotion an instrument of national peace and integration.
“There was also the need to propagate the gospel of peace in the region and engage the youth positively as much as possible and so this is what we hope to achieve at the end of the games,” she said.
She called on corporate organisations, individuals, Federal, State Governments and most importantly, the youth to continue to support and seize the opportunity to be part of such initiatives.
NAN reports that the gamesm which kicked off on April 29, is expected to end with the closing ceremony on Saturday. (NAN)
