Niger Govt. recovers 166 cows from rustlers, pledges enhanced security to end recent killings

Minna, May 18, 2017( NAN) A total of 166 cows have been recovered from cattle rustlers by security agents in Munya Local Government Area of Niger, an official said on Thursday.
Col. Kabiru Maikundi [rtd], Director General, Security, Government House Minna, said the recovery was part of the recent successes recorded in flushing out cattle rustlers in the state.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the state government had deployed security personnel to local areas, to stem upswing of security challenges recorded recently.
The director general explained that the state government had taken proactive security measures to end recent senseless killings in the state.
Maikundi said that so far, the efforts had yielded positive results, and assured the people of adequate protection.
The security chief stressed that the state government would provide more support to security agencies in their efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
He called on residents to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest and prosecution of all persons indulging in criminal activities in their localities.
Maikundi also appealed to traditional rulers and other stakeholders to sensitise residents to be security conscious at all times.
He said it was the civic responsibility of all Nigerians to help in tackling crime, adding that security matters must be regarded as a collective responsibility by all.( NAN)
