Katsina, Dec. 18, 2016(NAN) An international Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) –Save the children–has launched the Child Rights Advocacy Club in some secondary schools in Katsina state to improve students communication skills.
Mr Abdulwahab Yusuf, its Assistant Programme Coordinator made the disclosure on Sunday at Government Day Junior Secondary School (GDJSS), Kofar-Yandaka, at a dialogue on nutrition organised by the club.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO supports children education, health and nutrition in Nigeria.
Yusuf, said the aim of establishing the club was to improve communication skills among children, so as to enable them advocate for their rights to education, health and nutrition.
‘’We want to see the children voicing out their problems and advocating for their rights to education, nutrition and healthcare ,’’ he said.
He assured that the organization would continue to collaborate with the government to improve children education and healthcare.
In her remarks, the commissioner of education, Prof. Halimatu Idris, who was represented by a top official , Alhaji Abdullahi Charanchi, called on stakeholders to collaborate with the government to revive the standard of education in the state.
He explained that reviving debates and quiz competition in schools would assist to improve the communication skills of students.
He expressed the readiness of the administration to join hands with such NGOs to revive extracurricular activities for the benefit of students in the state.
‘’I was surprised when I saw junior students of public school like this speaking English language fluently.
‘’I want to assure you that we are ready to join hands with NGOs to improve physical fitness and communication skills of our students,’’ he said.
He said that the government has commenced rehabilitation of public schools to improve teaching and learning. (NAN)
