Katsina, July 6, 2018 (NAN) The Center for the Advancement of Mothers and Children in Katsina State, an NGO of the wife of Katsina State governor, Hajiya Hadiza Masari is to establish three centers for counseling women and youths drug addicts in the state.
The Governor’s wife made the disclosure at a press briefing in Katsina on Friday.
She said that high rate of involvement of women and youths into drug abuse and trafficking informed the decision to establish the centers.
‘’We are disturbed by the high rate at which women and youths abuse and sell hard drugs.
‘’It is disheartening that young girls and married women are not left behind in the illegal business of selling illicit drugs,’’ she said.
She urged parents, religious and community leaders, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward sensitising on the dangers associated with the ugly trend.
Mrs Masari also said that her NGO would give priority attention to increase enrolment of girl-child in the state.
According to her, some parents do not want to send their daughters to school in rural areas due to societal norms and poverty.
She noted that her NGO, through collaboration with High Level Women Advocates (HILWA), the state had recorded increase in the enrolment of the girl-child in schools.
Mrs Masari said that the NGO had also provided nutritious food to malnourished children in Funtua zone adding that effort was being made to extend similar gesture in other local government areas.
The governor’s wife also advised intending couple to always conduct genotype test before marriage as part of measures to prevent spread of sickle cell anemia in the state.(NAN)
