Abuja, Aug. 1, 2017 (NAN) Suleiman Gora, the newly elected president of Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), has promised that his administration would focus on developing the game in the grassroots.
Gora told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja that his wish was to see more young people taking part in the sport.
He thanked God for the opportunity given him to serve as the president of the federation the second time, adding that he would build on his achievements during his first tenure.
“I want to give thanks to God and appreciate Him for everything. Whatever one achieves in life is by the grace of God and not by the power of an individual.
“I want to also appreciate the scrabble family for finding me worthy to elect me again after serving them for four years.
“That shows that I have done something for them and for me, my re-election is a call for more hard work.
“I want to see thousands of kids that I can take-off the streets and bring them into scrabble.
“We want to take them through the challenges of life especially in the Nigeria environment that we find ourselves.
“I also want to look at where I will take scrabble to. We have become World Champions, Africa Champions.
“We are the best scrabble playing nation in the world. We will struggle and maintain this standard,’’ he added.
Gora said that he would also pay attention to the federation school scrabble programme know as `Spelling Biz’.
“My primary target in the next coming years is the schools scrabble. The spelling Biz.
“What we have done in the last few years have shown us that we can bring back reading habit because one of the things we have discovered is that our youths hardly read any book these days.
“Most students apart from what they read for their examination hardly read any book. Scrabble tends to give you that desire to read.
“We will also think on how to convince the corporate world to sponsor us.
“We have suffered lack of corporate sponsorship in the past, but this time, I want to see how I can convince them to sponsor scrabble,’’ Gora said. (NAN)
