Kano, Dec. 21, 2016 (NAN) The newly-established Aminu Dabo College of Health Sciences and Technology, Kano, is to commence academic programme in four courses.
The proprietor of the college and a one-time Managing Director of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), Alhaji Aminu Dabo, disclosed this when the accreditation team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) visited the College on Wednesday in Kano.
Dabo said the courses included Environmental Science; Health Information Technology; Dental and Laboratory Sciences.
He said the College which is the first private tertiary institution in the state, had all the necessary facilities required for the commencement of the programmes.
He said the decision to establish the College was borne out of his commitment to provide the needed manpower in health sector.
“Health is a critical sector now, so Kano being the most populous state, hence our decision to venture into the project.
“Our ambition is to have the best institution that will compete with other similar institutions in terms of standard across the globe,” Dabo said.
He urged the team to make objective assessment of the facilities put in place and advise the College management on the areas that needed improvement.
Earlier, the leader of the accreditation team, Malam Garba Ningi, said the team was at the college to assess the institution and its facilities with a view to coming up with comprehensive report that would guide the board in approving the programmes.
Also speaking, the Provost of the College, Prof. Babatunde Opabola, expressed the hope that the team would finally give the College the go-ahead to commence the programmes.
“We hope that at the end of this advisory/resource inspection exercise the board would give us the approval to commence academic activities,” Opabola said. (NAN)
