NEMA donates relief materials to victims of fire disaster in Yobe.

Nguru (Yobe), Feb.4, 2017 (NAN) The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday donated food and building materials to victims of fire disaster in Nguru, Yobe.

Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan, who led a federal government delegation, said the relief materials were provided to assist the victims to resettle and resume their normal businesses.

Senator Lawan said the federal government through NEMA provided the relief materials “to alleviate and amilleorate the sufferings of the victims and, to give them a means of livelihood.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items donated include 300 bundles of zinc, 3,000 pieces of ceiling boards, 100 packets of roofing nails, 100 bags of sorghum, 100 bags of beans, tomatoes, milk and spaghetti.

Sen. Lawan also made a personal donation of N2 million to assist victims of the disaster rehabilitate their business premises.

“You need some money to hire masons, carpenters and electricians to rebuild your stores, I hope this token from me will assist in that direction,” he said.

The lawmaker urged leadership of the market association to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the relief materials and the money donated to all those affected irrespective of political differences.

The Yobe governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, commended NEMA for providing the relief materials. 

The governor who, was represented by Alhaji Musa Jidawa, Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), assured the victims of more assistance from the state government.

Alhaji Sani Sidi, Director General NEMA, said the agency was always prepared to support victims of disasters across the country.

He expressed readiness of the agency to partner with stakeholders to support and provide succor to victims of natural and human disaster. (NAN)
