NDE empowers 300 youths in Nasarawa

Lafia, June 7, 2018 (NAN) The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Nasarawa State, has trained 300 youths under the N-POWER Build programme of the Federal Government to enable them become self-reliant and contribute to national development.
Alhaji Dauda Wase, the state Coordinator of the scheme, made this known on Thursday during the presentation of testimonials and disbursement of training tools/equipment to the beneficiaries in Lafia.
He said the training was in collaboration with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) and the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) under the N-POWER Build programme of the Federal Government.
The state coordinator said the N-POWER Build was targeted at the non-graduate youths in order to build and provide a new crop of skilled and highly competent technicians, artisans and service providers.
He also said the training was conducted by the agency, the Nasarawa State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board (VRTB) and the Construction Skills Training and Empowerment Programme(C-STEmp).
According to him, these agencies trained a total of 300 participants for three months in masonry, tiling works, electrical installations, painting, decoration, carpentry, welding and plumbing among others.
“All the trainees will from tomorrow go for a further nine months attachment to enable them become very proficient in their respective vocations, which will ultimately make them ready for self employment.
“Each participant was provided a nourishing meal per day and N10,000 every month and the payment will continue throughout the duration of the apprenticeship/attachment.
Wase urged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge gained to train others for the betterment of the society.
The state coordinator appreciated the Federal Government for initiating good policies and programmes to address youth unemployment in the country and called for its sustenance.
Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, the state’s Commissioner for Special Education, Science and Technology urged the beneficiaries to use the tools for the purpose they were meant for.
Ayuba, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Jibrin Giza, reiterated the government’s commitment to continue to imitate polices and programme that would fight poverty and unemployment among the youth.
Responding on behalf of other beneficiaries, Hassana Dahiru, appreciated the Federal Government for the gesture and called for the sustenance of the programme.
She promised to be a good ambassador of the scheme in order to train others to become self employed. (NAN)
