Abuja, July 11, 2018 (NAN) The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Wednesday conducted a risk assessment of the country to effectively tackle health emergencies.

The assessment was carried out at a workshop organised for stakeholders from the Ministries of Health, Budget and National Planning and National Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the World Health Organisation.

Dr John Oladejo, NCDC Head of Health Emergency Preparedness and Response, said the ‘Workshop on Nigeria Strategic Assessment of Risk and Vulnerability Risk’ would address the issues of risk and disaster control.

“This workshop is timely and important to enforce parameters to curtail health hazards, ensure effective management and control of risks, disasters and emergency cases in the country,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Musa Zakari, Deputy Director, Planning, Research and Forecasting, National Emergency Management Agency, said government had committed resources to managing and controlling emergency situations in the country.

“Government is doing a lot on disaster management in all ramifications; in natural disaster situations, nothing much can be done about them but it could be managed.

“The risk could be reduced in affecting individuals while human induced hazards could be controlled effectively if the right measures are taken,” he said.

Dr Ngoy Nsenga, WHO Representative Team Lead, Emergency Hub for East and Southern Africa, said it partnered with NCDC on the workshop to support and encourage Nigeria’s health sector.

Other stakeholders called for a lasting solution to the health hazards and diseases in the country. (NAN)
