Ibadan, Feb. 22, 2018(NAN) Mr Akeem Agbaje, the Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Oyo State branch, has called for the extension of pupillage to encourage adequate training and field practice for young lawyers.

He made the call at a public lecture organised by Law Students’ Association of Lead City University in Ibadan on Thursday.

Agbaje, who spoke on “Be The Lawyer Of Your Dream”, said such extension by a year or two would enhance the capabilities of young lawyers and their experiences in practice.

He added that “the education system and the society is not conducive enough for smooth operation but aspiring professionals must strive hard with courage to transform their vision into reality.

“Lawyers should be courageous, hardworking and determined in their bid to be successful.

“They must ensure strict adherence to professional ethics in their chosen career.”

The lawyer also urged those in the legal profession to be informed and to develop their mental ability, saying such was the only way they could be relevant and successful.

Agbaje, who is aspiring to succeed Gov. Abiola Ajimobi as Oyo State Governor, said his mission in government was to take the state to the next level.

He noted that “the incumbent governor has tried his best. All I need to do is to advance the progress made so far. Government is a continuum and the society will be better for it.”

Earlier, Mr Wale Ojo-Lanre, the President of the association in the state, said the lecture was organised to enlighten student lawyers and prepare them on how to be successful. (NAN) TAA/IFY/HA
