Dutse, June 6, 2018 (NAN) The Jigawa chapter of National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) on Wednesday organised a two-day sensitisation workshop for 120 women on cancer, pregnancy and other women-related diseases in Dutse.
The Chairperson of the association in the state, Hajiya Larai Musa, told participants that the workshop was to educate them on some women related diseases.
Musa pledged that the association would continue to support and educate women in the state and enjoined the participants to step down the knowledge they acquired to other women in their respective communities.
The chairperson added that participants were selected from the 27 local government areas of the state.
A Gynecologist from Dutse General Hospital, Dr Maryam Zakari, delivered a lecture on cancer, its causes, types, symptoms and remedies, as well as pregnancy and its complications.
Zakari urged the Jigawa Government to employ more female doctors to cater for female patients in the state.
She said “I want to use this opportunity to advise Jigawa Government to employ more female doctors to check female patients properly.
“This is because some female patients are not comfortable with male doctors examining them or are shy in telling male doctors their problems.”
Some of the participants — Aisha Abubakar and Maman Ahmad, commended the association for the gesture, saying they learnt a lot about cancer, its causes and preventive measures, as well as pregnancy and its complications and care. (NAN)
