Lafia, May 16, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has opened the bid for the award of N8.6 billion contracts for construction of new school buildings.
Speaking during the opening of the bid on Tuesday in Lafia, Nasarawa SUBEB Chairman, Mohammed Dan-Azumi, said the process was in line with the law to ensure due process in the award of contracts.
Dan-Azumi, who was represented by Mr Freeman Kasa, a member of the board, promised to provide a level playing field for all the bidders to participate and ensure that due process was strictly adhered to.
“Even though this is my first interface with all the contractors since I assume office, I will ensure that due process is strictly adhered to and make sure there is no favouritism,” the chairman said.
He said that the state government has paid its counterpart fund of N4.3 billion for the period of four years from 2012 to 2016 to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
“We will use the N8.6 billion the state accessed from UBEC to implement projects in order to actualize the objectives of basic education in the state,” he said.
Dan-Azumi said it would be no more be business as usual for contractors in the habit of collecting money and not doing the job as the board would deal with anyone found culpable.
Also speaking, Ahmed Boboyi, Executive Secretary of UBEC, said the commission would ensure that the projects were executed in line with the approval.
Boboyi, represented by Esther Tella, UBEC Zonal Coordinator for North Central, urged successful contractors to ensure standard jobs were completed within the stipulated time frame.
Similarly, the representative of Canonic Associates, the consulting firm to supervise the contract, Mohammed Idris, said the company would ensure that quality was not compromised. (NAN)
