Lafia, Jan. 19, 2017 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Government is to construct and renovate more than 300 classrooms in public primary schools across the state in 2017.
Yakubu Ahmed-Ubangari, the Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), made this disclosure on Thursday to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.
The Executive Secretary, who stressed the need to provide adequate infrastructure in public primary schools, said the project would provide better learning environment for pupils.
He said that Gov. Tanko Al-makura of the state, had great passion for the education sector and would not relent in his efforts to sustain what he started.
“It is for this reason that the governor paid N4.5 billion counterpart funding in order to access funds from accredited partners for the education sector.
“We have prepared action plan for all the schools and we will ensure that this guides us to carry out all the necessary repairs in the schools,” Ahmed Ubangari said.
He said the board would go on physical monitoring of the conditions of infrastructure in primary schools; to identify the level of dilapidation in all the schools.
Ahmed – Ubangari explained that after such visit, headmasters of the various schools would send in their reports on what they required.
“Apart from the provision of infrastructure, it is also necessary to provide furniture and all other needed equipment that will enhance effective teaching and learning in our schools,” he said.
The Executive Secretary said that in order to safeguard the school environment from any attack, the board had planned to engage the Nigeria Peace Corps to man all the primary schools.
Ahmed-Ubangari called on the primary school authorities, particularly the school management committees to maintain and protect the various facilities in their schools. (NAN)
