Nasarawa  State Assembly calls for memoranda on bill prohibiting forceful occupation of landed properties

Lafia, Oct.17, 2017(NAN) The Nasarawa state House of Assembly on Tuesday called on the public to submit memoranda to enable it to make a law to prohibit forceful and illegal occupation of landed properties in the interest of peace and good governance in the state.

Alhaji Hashimu Gurku, Chairman, House Committee on Land, made the call in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia.

He said the parliament would hold public hearing on Wednesday on a bill to that effect.

The statement called on local governments, lawyers, surveyors, land administrators, traditional rulers and the general public to submit memoranda on or before Wednesday to the Secretary of the committee in Lafia.

He said that the exercise was to receive input from various stakeholders on the bill, adding that the bill, if passed, would tackle cases of illegal occupation of landed properties in the state.

“The public hearing is to enable the committee do a thorough job on the bill in the interest of peace and for the socio-economic development of the state.’’

Gurku said that assembly would continue to observe the rule of law in passing bills, to give every segment of the population a sense of belonging.

He restated the commitment of the assembly to continue to enact laws and pass resolutions with direct impact on the lives of the people of the state. (NAN)
