Drivers

Lafia, July 4, 2018 (NAN) The Nasarawa State chapter of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has threatened to sanction any commercial driver under the influence of drugs while driving.
Alhaji Salihu Adamu, the state Chairman of the union, made this known in an interview with newsmen in Lafia.
According to him, the leadership of the union is taking serious measures toward sanitising the union in order to curtail unnecessary accidents.
He attributed the cause of accidents on the highway to human activities hence the need for all hands to be on deck to curtail it.
“Before now, we have situations where commercial drivers, particularly the young ones, would take hard drugs in the presence of their passengers.
“But with the measures we have put on ground, you will hardly see any driver taking alcohol or any other drugs.
“Any driver who thinks he is satisfied taking alcohol is allowed to take it after the day’s work.”
Adamu also said that the union had banned the sale of alcohol drinks in all motor parks in the state.
He said that anybody caught selling alcohol, cannabis or any other hard drugs in motor parks would be penalised.
The chairman therefore, urged commuters to take the number plates of any driver found taking hard drugs to the nearest office of the union for prompt action. (NAN)
