Lafia, Aug. 7, 2018 (NAN) Nasarawa State Government on Tuesday urged journalists to always stand by the truth and adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession in the interest of peace and national development.
Gov. Tanko Al-Makura made the call in Lafia at the launch of a book entitled “Governor Al-Makura: Expanding the Frontiers of Democratic Governance in Nasarawa State”.
The book was written by Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council, in honour of Gov. Al-Makura
Al-Makura, who was represented by the state Deputy Governor, Mr Silas Agara, commended the members of the chapel for writing a book on his achievements since assuming office in 2011 till date.
The governor said that the book would be of benefit to the people of the state and those yet unborn.
“Let me appreciate the members of the Correspondents’ Chapel for packaging a book on my achievements towards impacting positively on the lives of the people of the state.
“I want to assure you of our continued support and cordial relationship to move the state forward.
“It is in view of this that I urge you to always stand for the truth by adhering strictly to your professional ethics in the interest of peace and development,” he said.
Al-Makura urged journalists to project government activities, as they are mirrors of the society.
Earlier, Mr Abubakar Suleiman, Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, said that the members of the union wrote the book as their modest way of chronicling Al-Makura’s strides in the past seven years.
“The achievements include construction of modern roads, schools, markets, provision of modern healthcare facilities, youth empowerment programmes and provision of several Hilux trucks to security agencies.
“The other areas of achievements have been in the land administration through the introduction of the Nasarawa Geographic Information System (NAGIS) among others,” he said.
Suleiman said that journalists would continue to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in the interest of development. (NAN)
