Dualisation
Lafia, Dec. 13, 2016 (NAN) The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has appealed to the federal and Nasarawa State governments, to dualise the Keffi/Akwanga road.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, made the call in Lafia on Tuesday, after Mr Ibrahim Bala (APC-Keffi West), moved a motion, under matters of public interest, on the need to expand the Keffi roundabout.
Balarabe-Abdullahi said dualising the road would reduce the rate of accidents and save the lives of the people plying the road.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on Dec. 12, a petrol tanker exploded at the Keffi roundabout killing one person and destroying properties worth millions of naira.
“I want to commend the mover of this motion and other members for drawing the attention of the governments on the need to expand the Keffi roundabout and dualise the Akwanga/Keffi/Lafia roads in order to save human lives.
“We heard that it’s not the first or second time that accidents have been occurring at the Keffi roundabout due to the nature of the roundabout
“It is indeed very unfortunate that what happen yesterday destroyed properties worth million of naira in Keffi.
“It is the function of every government to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
“To ensure that its citizens welfare are catered for, so as to improve on their standard of living for the overall development of the country.
“It is in view of this that this House is appealing to the federal and Nasarawa state governments to expand the Keffi roundabout as well as dualise the Keffi/Akwanga/Lafia road to reduce the rate of accidents and save human lives,” he said.
Balarabe-Abdullahi condoled with the family of the victim of the tanker explosion.
Earlier, Mr Ibrahim Bala (APC-Keffi West) called on his colleague to support his motion
“I want to call on you to support my motion on the need for the federal and state government to expand the Keffi roundabout.
“This is, because of what happened yesterday in which a petrol tanker lost control and exploded, thereby killing one person while properties worth million of naira was destroyed,” he said.
Mr Muluku Ibrahim (PDP-Nassarawa Eggon East) seconded the motion.
The House, therefore, unanimously passed a resolution appealing to both tiers of government to expand the Keffi roundabout and dualise the Keffi/Akwanga roads.
The speaker directed the clerk of the House to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to Gov. Al-Makura for necessary action. (NAN)
