Abuja, Jan.11, 2018 (NAN) National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA), says its proposed Unified Identity Card Scheme for genuine travel agencies in the country will checkmate fraud in the sector.

Mr Bernard Bankole, the president of NANTA in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja said the association was in final round of talks with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).

“ Our industry is the downstream sector of the aviation industry and we have about 6,000 members; and there are others that were not members but are just trading.

“The only recognised body for travel agency by the government is NANTA; we are working in conjunction with NCAA to bring out a suitable ID card that would serve the industry.

“NCAA set up a task force which has submitted their reports; we are waiting on NCAA so that we can launch it and create awareness to the public.

“When Launch, it will help to reduce any form of fraud because we have notice that some Lebanese and foreigners come into our industry and defraud people of their hard earn money.

“The Unified ID cards for practitioners will go a long way to checkmate these type of fraudulent acts and provide better and professional services to our clients,’’ Bankole said.

The NANTA President stressed that awareness on the scheme was already in the market adding that it would be launch soon as plans have culminated to an advanced level with NCAA. (NAN)
