Abuja, Nov. 10, 2017 (NAN) The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) is set to collaborate with Voice of America (VOA) in publicising the radio station’s  documentary on the fight against insurgency in Nigeria.

The Managing Director of the Agency, Mr Bayo Onanuga, said this on Friday in Abuja while receiving delegates from VOA on courtesy visit.

Onanuga commended VOA on the focus of the documentary.

He said NAN was a repository of information that serviced all media in Nigeria, adding that the documentary would be published on NAN YouTube platform.

Onanuga said the documentary would also be uploaded on www.nan.ng platform and shared with all subscribers.

He added that “in this country if NAN is not there it will not be heard anywhere, we service virtually all the media in this country, including bloggers, television and radio stations.

“We started as an analogue kind of media, later we adopted the satellite and internet and now we are carefully embracing the new digital media.

“The documentary will fit into our youtube channel; we can upload it on our platform www.nan.ng, and we can share it with our subscribers.

“Nigeria is very peculiar as a people despite everything we always find away to survive. I am sure the documentary has captured this national spirit of resilience and I am sure it will be a delight to watch by all Nigerians,’’ Onanuga said.

Earlier, Mr Aliyu Mustapha, Managing Editor, VOA, Hausa Service, who led the delegation, said that NAN was an institution he had tremendous respect for because of its efficiency in service delivery.

Mustapha noted that VOA had produced a documentary that showed the resilience of Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.

According to him, the documentary is not to tell Nigerians what they already know but to tell the story of the insurgency and its psychological, social and economic consequences, using four women.

He added that the focus of the documentary was on how Nigerians endured challenges, particularly those in the North-East.

He said that VOA had been working really hard since the last two years to put the documentary together, adding that it had been premiered in London and Washington DC already as well as published online.

“The VOA in the last two years has been working really hard to put this documentary together trying to represent as many aspects as possible, it’s about 55 minutes.

`It has already been premiered in London and Washington DC and it is about to get translated to many languages –  Swahili, Russian, French, Arabic and many others.

“The idea is to tell the world what Nigeria has been going through and how to equip them, with the hope that we won’t experience such again.’’

He said that in order to get the documentary out to the public, “we are on a tour of Abuja and 10 other states to meet media executives, traditional rulers, religious leaders, government officials and others to give them a copy”.

Mustapha handed a copy of the video in a flash drive to the NAN MD, asking him to watch it, share his view as well as advise on how the media can collaborate with the military and others to address insurgency in the country.(NAN)
