Abuja, June 14, 2017 (NAN) Malam Yusuf Zango, the Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) has advised students to work hard in order to excel in their career choices.
Zango said this when he received staff and students of Ronkus International School, Mararaba in Nasarawa State, on excursion to NAN Head office on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that hard work will enable them impact more positively in the society.
The E-I-C, who briefed them on the editorial operations of the agency, said the agency gathers news and disseminates them to its over 100 subscribers.
“NAN is everywhere, we have reporters in all the states and other countries who gather news for us before we disseminate to our subscribers who rely on us for it.’’
Earlier, Mr Peter Uwumarogie, a senior teacher in the school said most of the students are interested in the journalism profession hence the need for the excursion to NAN.
“We feel the right place to visit is the News Agency of Nigeria; I am optimistic that this visit will not only boost the interests of the students in journalism practice, but also in other profession.
“I want to commend NAN; the staff are warm and friendly; and I believe this visit will disabuse their minds against any negative thought about journalism,’’ Uwumarogie said.
One of the students, Miss Judith Idagu, an SSII student of Arts said the visit had further inspired her to pursue her dreams of becoming a journalist though with special interest in broadcasting.
“ I used to be open-minded about any career choice, but my visit here has actually made me realise that I would like to study journalism or any course that would enable me work with the media.’’
Similarly, another student, Master Moses Oke said the visit provided the opportunity for him to know more about the ethics of journalism and the role NAN plays in information gathering and dissemination.
“I now understand how a reporter works to gather information that are news worthy and the process it undergoes through editing before it is disseminated to the public.’’
“I have a strong passion for anything that is related to entertainment and I intend to work towards achieving it.
“The Entertainment desk of NAN has encouraged me to be more creative and horn my skills in comedy and music,’’ Oke said.
NAN reports that high point of the visit was musical performance to the admiration of the members of staff of NAN by students. (NAN)
