Lagos, Aug. 24, 2017(NAN) A 29-year-old trader, Taiwo Ogunremi, who allegedly stabbed his colleague with a knife, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Ogunremi, who resides in Ipaja area of Lagos, is facing a charge of assault.

The accused committed the offence on June 29 in Ikeja, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Essien Ndarake.

He said the accused stabbed the complainant, Mr Samuel Sunday, a trader, with a knife for demanding the N60,000 owed him.

Ndarake said trouble started when the complainant approached the accused for the N60, 000 he owned him since June 2016.

“The complainant met the accused and demanded the money of the chocolate he supplied him last year.

“The accused refused to give him the money and the complainant held on to his clothes to prevent him from taking-off.

“The accused then brought out a knife and stabbed him,” he told the court.

The offence contravened Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed for three years if found guilty.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs I.M. Dan-Oni, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Dan-Oni adjourned the case until Sept. 6 for mention. (NAN)
