Abuses
Abuja, Jan.16, 2018 (NAN) A prosecuting counsel, Mrs Atiepip Inacho, on Tuesday told an FCT High Court, Gudu ,that the witnesses in the case of alleged robbery filed against one Wasiu Adewusi, rained abuses on her.
Inacho is prosecuting the case of criminal conspiracy and robbery filed by the Police against Adewusi.
She told the court that the witnesses on various occasions have resorted to insulting her each time she invites them to come and give evidence in court.
Inacho said: “One of them Chioma Abel, told me that I should stop worrying her as she is no longer interested in the matter.’’
The prosecutor said that another witness, Ananso Willam, told her that she should go and `rent’ a witness and leave him alone.
She said that the third witness, Uche Okafor, kept on promising that he would come, but “each time I call him, he claims that he has travelled,’’ the prosecutor said.
“There are about five of them, but these are the ones I can reach,’’ she said.
The judge, Justice Adebukola Banjoko, adjourned the case until Feb. 20, and warned that if the prosecution failed to produce her witnesses, “the court will do what it is supposed to do”.
Banjoko also said that there was no need to keep the defendant in detention if the witnesses were no longer interested in the matter.
She also said that the prosecution should take note that the defendant had spent more than a year in detention.
At the last adjourned date of Nov 21, the judge had set Dec. 5, 2017 for consideration of the defendant’s bail application.
Adewusi was first arraigned on Sept.18, 2016 and he had pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution had told the court that Abel and six others reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on Aug. 21, 2016.
The defence counsel, Mr Tokunbo Adewale, had complained that the case had suffered many adjournments . (NAN)
