Kaduna, Feb. 28, 2018 (NAN) An 18-year-old housewife, Maryam Auwal has asked a Kaduna Sharia Court to dissolve her marriage to Rilwanu Usman, accusing the husband of failing in his duties.

Maryam told the court that her husband has been starving her of food since their marriage in December 2016 and was unable to live up to his responsibilities as a husband.

The husband, had pleaded guilty, but said he was still in love with his wife and promised to change for the better.

He urged the court not to dissolve the marriage.

The case was first heard on Feb. 21, when the Judge, Musa Sa’ad ruled that the complainant return to her matrimonial home and give the husband another chance.

Usman, however, returned to the court on Wednesday, complaining that his wife had refused to return to his house as ordered by the court.

He said in the event Marayam refuses to return, the court should compel her to return the N50, 000 he paid as bride price as well as the boxes of clothes he gave to her.

Also, Shuaibu Tafida and Isah Abdulkadir who stood as guardians during the marriage to the husband and wife, respectively, urged the court to dissolve the union.

The Judge, however, advised the guardians to try settling the couple and adjourned till March 7, for them to report back to the court on their effort. (NAN)
