Kaduna, March 22, 2017 (NAN) Hajiya Amina Sambo, wife of Nigeria’s former Vice President, on Wednesday urged women in the country to add their voices in uniting societies and promoting peace and mutual coexistence.

Mrs Sambo, a member of the International Advisory Council of Global Peace Women (GPW) Nigeria, made the call at the inaugural meeting of the body in Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports that GPW is an arm of the Global Peace Fundation, with headquarters in Manilla, Phillipines, set up to promote family values, peace and service to humanity.

She said that the group was committed to advancing the vision of `One Family under God’, using women to create an environment for peace begining from the home.

According to her, women as mothers and guide to all family members, must be in the forefront of finding solutions to common challenges affecting peace and essential family values.

Mrs Sambo, who is also the founder of the NGO `I Care–Women and Youth Initiative’, noted that a peaceful world begins in the home, where women play a unique role.

She called on other like-minded groups and individuals to ensure that peace, harmony and tranquility reigns across the globe.

Mrs Sambo stressed that women must at all times “preach peace, act peace and live peacefully.”

Earlier, the Country Director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Mr John Oko, noted that the group had recognised the immense role of women in peace building from the family level to global stage.

In a remark, the Northern Co-coordinator GPF Nigeria, Rev. John Hayab underscored the power of women in circulating and promoting positive messages to a wider audience.

Also, another Northern Co-coordinator GPF Nigeria, Sheikh Halliru Maraya, said the group has provided a platform for the education of women on family values and key essentials of societal development. [NAN]
