Benin, Dec. 23, 2016 (NAN) The wife of Edo Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, on Friday feted Edo women and urged them to take their rightful positions in the affairs of the nation.

Mrs Obaseki made the call at the Christmas and End of Year Party organised by the Office of the Wife of the Governor in Benin.

She said a woman could be elected the Governor of the state in the foreseeable future.

She, however, advised women to eschew pettiness and fighting and up their game to become a formidable force in all fields of human endeavours.

She thanked the women for supporting her husband in the September election, saying that he noted that women were most active and loyal in politics.

She said this was why the governor directed party leaders across ward, local government and state levels to ensure that there was a woman out of three leaders.

She said the present administration in the state was open to all residents of the state, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political persuasions.

According to her, “we are in office to look after everybody.
We feel special to be called God’s children, because God is interested in us.

“God has chosen to visit Edo. It is time for governance and time to do what God has chosen us to do.
“

She stressed that the present administration would build on the foundation of the previous administration, while predicting that Edo would witness unprecedented development just as its happening in Lagos State.

Mrs Obaseki also noted that the present hardship in the country was not peculiar to Nigeria alone, and urged everybody to assist the government on how to lift the nation out of economic recession.

She emphasised that when things get bad that was when the ingenuity of a people come to the fore.

She, however, expressed optimism that the state would be the first to experience economic recovery from the present hardship and recession in the country.

She told women of the state to expect less of celebrations in the years ahead, saying that the administration would be focusing on delivering on its electioneering campaign promises. (NAN)
