Ibadan, Oct. 10, 2017 (NAN) The wife of Oyo State governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, on Tuesday in Ibadan said caring for vulnerable children should be the collective responsibility of all Nigerians.
Ajimobi said this while distributing food items and toiletries to vulnerable children in the state to commemorate the country’s 57th Independence anniversary.
The governor’s wife said the country had gone through trials and tribulations, adding that the anniversary was worthy of being celebrated.
“October 1 is always a day for celebration because it is believed that Nigeria is gradually moving from being an under-developed country to one of the developing countries in the world.
“This is evident in the acceptance of democracy in Nigeria which has brought peace and unity to the country and Oyo State in particular.
“Since the inception of this administration, my office in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, had always celebrated this special day with the citizens of Oyo State.
“We do this especially for the less-privileged by giving them gift items such as food, provisions, toiletries and cash donations.
“This is done to show them love and give them a sense of belonging which is believed will further build their self-esteem.
“This year, the kind gesture has been extended to more orphans and the most vulnerable children in Oyo State to put smiles on their faces,’’ she said.
She commended Civil Society Organisations as well as Home Operators and other caregivers who had continued to provide support for vulnerable children in the state.
“The state government under the leadership of Abiola Ajimobi is proud to be associated with you and we appreciate your efforts concerning the less-privileged.
“I pray that the Lord will continue to enrich your purse and bless you accordingly,’’ she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that representatives of 30 orphanages across the state were present at the occasion. (NAN)
