Lagos, Feb. 23, 2017 (NAN) A 20-year-old motorcyclist, Biodun Amavi, who allegedly snatched a mobile phone worth N48, 000 from a woman at a bus stop, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Amavi, who lives at Ajegunle area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to the charges of stealing, damage and breach of peace brought against him.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Ajayi Emmanuel, told the court that Amavi and another man still at large committed the offences at Layi Oyekanmi Street, Palm Avenue, Mushin, Lagos, on Feb. 10.
Emmanuel said the accused was on a motorcycle when he snatched an Infinx Note2 from the complainant, Ganiyat Yusuf, at the bus stop and disappeared.
“Yusuf raised an alarm and people around gave them a hot chase. As he was about to jump over a fence to escape, it collapsed.
“The accused was apprehended while the other man ran way.”
The offences contravened Sections 285,166 and 337 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, A.E. Azeez, granted the accused bail of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Azeez said the sureties must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition.
The case was adjourned to March 13 for mention. (NAN)
