Ikeja, Feb. 5, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday admitted a motor dealer, Oluremi Morakinyo, to a N500,000 bail after being charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen vehicle.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Akokhia, ruled that the accused must produce two sureties, who must show evidence of payment of three years tax to the Lagos State Government.

Morankinyo, 59, a resident of Ife-Olu, Jago Road, Badeku in Ibadan, Oyo State, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that Morakinyo committed the offences on Aug. 8, 2017 at 1.40 p.m. at Ikorodu- Ijebu-Ode Expressway, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused received a stolen Volkswagen Golf 3x wagon car, valued at N750, 000 from one Adetayo Oguntade, knowing same to have been stolen at gun point.

According to Aigbokhan, on the said date, a team of Special Anti Robbery Squad detectives intercepted a gang of armed robbers operating along the Ikorodu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway and its environs.

“During a stop and search, Adedayo was arrested and he confessed to have sold the stolen car to the accused in the sum of N150, 000.

“The accused committed the offences by conspiring with others still at large,” Aigbokhan said.

The offences contravened Sections 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years jail for conspiracy.

The accused, however, entered a not ‘ guilty plea’ and his lawyer applied for bail on liberal terms.

The case was adjourned until March 2. (NAN)
