Omu-Aran (Kwara), March 9, 2017 (NAN) Oba Charles Ibitoye, the Olomu of Omu-Aran, in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara, has urged the Federal Government to expedite action on the construction of Ilorin-Omu-Aran-Kabba Road.

Ibitoye, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Omu-Aran, said that this would alleviate the sufferings of motorists and commuters plying the road.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had recently approved N21 billion for the construction of the Section I of the road.

The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, told State House Correspondents after the FEC meeting that it would complement the ongoing work on the Kabba-Egbe Road to link Kwara and Kogi.

NAN reports that Ilorin-Omu-Aran-Kabba Road constructed more than 30 years ago, is in deplorable state.

Ibitoye said, “It is a thing of joy to us in Kwara South Senatorial District, Omu-Aran in particular, when we learn of the approval for the construction of Ilorin-Omu-Aran-Kabba Road.

“The road construction when completed, will not only ease human and vehicular movement, but will also curb incessant crashes and loss of lives being witnessed on the highway.

“It is on this premises that we are commending the Federal Government and also appealing to them to expedite action by mobilising the contractors and workers to site.’’

He said that construction of the highway when completed, would improve transportation of farm produces and trading activities.

According to him, the problem of bad roads has been a major factor militating against the government’s desire to develop agriculture at the grassroots.

The monarch said that incessant armed robbery attacks on the road resulting in loss of lives and property had remained a source of concern to community leaders.

He said that good road remained very critical to the wellbeing of people in the areas who were predominantly farmers and traders. (NAN)
